Hello and Thank you for your interest in a CSA share with Season's Harvest Eco-Farm. CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and offers a way for people interested in naturally grown, nutrition packed food and sustainable food production to be assured of where their food comes from. At Season's Harvest Eco-Farm we sell shares of our produce for the season and each week you receive a bag overflowing with fresh tasty vegetables at our farm.

Our menu of produce includes: Snap Beans, Dry Beans, Beets, Bok Choy, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower, Chinese Cabbage, Collards, Corn, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Endive, Greens-American, Greens-Oriental, Jerusalem artichoke, Kale, Kohlrabi, Lettuce, Mixed Baby Greens, Melons, Mustard, Okra, Onions, Parsnips, Peas, Peppers-Hot, Peppers-Sweet, Pumpkins, Radishes, Spinach, Squash-Summer, Squash-Winter, Swiss Chard, Tomatoes, Watermelon, Culinary Herbs.

What is a vegetable share?
Your share includes many different crops, please see above. Our summer season runs 6 months from May to October and our winter season runs 6 months from November to April. Our veggies are picked at the peak of ripeness, flavor and nutrition, within hours of pick-up. Our full share comes in large reusable bags which, depending on the time of year, contains 5 to 25 pounds of produce each week. This is a good amount for two serious vegetable eaters, or four to six lighter vegetable eaters. If you think a share may be too much food for your household, we encourage you to split a share with a friend, or preserve some of the produce to use later, or purchase a 1/2 share. Our 1/2 share comes in medium reusable bags which, depending on the time of year, contains 2 1/2 to 12 1/2 pounds of produce each week. You also receive our weekly newsletter that helps you stay connected to what's happening on the farm, what's in your bag, recipes, environmental movies and farm events. In addition to the vegetables we offer local breads, raw cows milk, raw goats milk, farm fresh cheeses, eggs, coffee, honey, fruit and some naturally raised meats for sale from other farm friends.

How does it work?
At Season's Harvest Eco-Farm we are responsible for the planting, tending, harvesting and gathering of the crops. Farm members buy a share of our harvest in advance of the growing season; this allows us to purchase seeds and other supplies when needed without incurring a debt. Members also commit to help out on the farm 12 hours per season, usually for 4-hour shifts on harvest days, providing the extra labor needed to get all the produce harvested, cleaned, bagged or bundled, and ready for pick-up. Each week during the growing season members pick up their share of the harvest at the farm from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesdays. As always, please remember that Community Supported Agriculture is a risk sharing proposition. As farmers, we pledge to farm in a sustainable manner, and to do everything in our power to produce a high quality, large harvest. We plant successive plantings of the most important crops so that there is rarely a complete lack of an item, and typically any shortages are offset by the abundance of another crop. We've already got crops in the ground, and we are planting more every day. We commit to provide produce to CSA members first and foremost. As members, you pledge to support the farm with your financial and moral support, understanding that farming is risky business, and there are inevitably losses and wins in every season, as we have little control over Mother Nature (hail, drought, tornadoes, heavy winds, insect infestations, virus or bacterial infections, etc.)

How much & when do I work on the farm?
Each share holder contributes by assisting with the harvest of the shares 3 times a season for a total of 12 hours. The farm work takes place Wednesday mornings for harvest; it includes harvesting, sorting, and packing of the produce with the farmers. There are also a limited number of weekend workdays, to do general farm work. Several shifts can be satisfied in one morning based on the number of participants a household brings. Members will schedule these shifts at the pre-season kick off meeting Saturday May 1st, 5:30 p.m. at the farm (please mark your calendar).

What are my responsibilities as a member of Season's Harvest Eco-Farm CSA?
The single most important thing (besides enjoying the veggies) members can do during the season is to read the newsletter. It contains important info about what's in the bag, news, things you need to know and recipes. The newsletter is also available on the website. The other general responsibilities are:
1) You agree to make a financial contribution to the farm for the summer or winter for that season's share of vegetables.
2) You agree to pick up your share each week at the location and times specified, unless prior arrangements have been made.
3) You agree to commit to help out on the farm 12 hours per season, usually for 4-hour shifts on harvest days.
4) You agree to return your empty cloth veggies bags at the pickup site each week.

What if I don't want something?
Do I have to take it? No. We will have a "No Thank You Box" at each pick up location. If you receive something in your bag that you know you won't use, please don't just throw it away. Place it in the "No Thank You Box". We cannot offer refunds for items not taken, but the local food pantry will benefit from the produce not taken.

What do I do when I pick up my share?
When you pick up your share you will take your cloth veggies bags, with your name on it, from the stack at the pickup site, and return your last week empty cloth veggies bags. There will be a clipboard with a list of members at the site. It is very important that you check your name off of the list so that we know you picked up your share. Please be careful checking off your name so that you check the right box.

When and where do I pick up my share?
Share pickup times vary by pickup site.
You can choose to pick it up directly from our farm:
• Season's Harvest Eco-Farm, Sparta, Mo
Thursday 2-4 pm or choose from the possible locations below, if you do not see your town, just ask us.

Some Add-On shares will not be avilable until during/after the Farmers market below.

Thursday 5-8pm Christian County Farmers Market, Ozark Community Center

• Fordland, Mo • Springfield, Mo • Ozark, Mo • Nixa, Mo • Rogersville, Mo • Branson, Mo • Mountain Grove, Mo • Highlandville, Mo

Please be patient if we are not there right on time. Rarely are we more than ten minutes late, things do go wrong some days.

What do I do if I'm going to be late?
If you are going to be unable to make it in time, please let us or the pickup site host know as soon as possible. If they do not hear from you they are authorized to give away your share after hours. You do not need to contact us if someone else is picking up your share for you, unless they will be picking it up late. Please explain the procedure for picking up your share to whoever picks it up for you. Please be respectful and courteous by picking up your share on time. We rely on the goodwill of the people who host the pickup sites and need your cooperation.

What do I do if I'm going on vacation?
The easiest solution is to have a neighbor or friend pick up your share, or it makes a nice reward for the house-sitter or mail-collector. You do not need to contact us if someone else is picking up your share, just let them know how to do it. Alternately you may opt for us not to pack your bag during that time, or to donate your share to a nearby food pantry. If you would like to pursue either of these options please let us know by phone or email at least a week in advance.

How do I contact Season's Harvest Eco-Farm?
Far and away the best way to contact us is by email since we can respond to it when it's convenient. If you need to contact us immediately you can call 417-634-5414, But be aware that we are a working farm and are in the garden working if we do not answer please leave a message there and we will get it.

ADD-ON Shares

Local Farm Fresh, Free Range Eggs
Shef’s CSA eggs are so colorful and beautiful! These eggs come direct from our local Shef’s CSA poultry farms where the heirloom chickens roam free during the day. Some of the chickens are 2nd generation, having been, laid, incubated and born on the farm. The chickens flock around the farm during the day, and spend quite a bit of time roaming the grass pastures and wooded areas adjacent to their home. They are eating a nutritious and balanced diet of insects and plants. The chickens will receive supplement feed of naturally grown corn, wheat, alfalfa and ground shells. In the afternoon, they come back to go into the coops to rest and lay eggs. The chickens are really happy at our Shef’s CSA local poultry farms.  A healthy chicken lays healthy eggs. Our eggs are wholesome and nutritious.

Look at, taste, or cook an egg from the pasture and you’ll find it difficult to return to conventionally raised eggs.  Sunshine, exercise, and chlorophyll from the grass not only provide numerous nutritional benefits (particularly Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E), but also change the way the eggs look, feel and taste.  The shells are much stronger while the yolks are orange and not flat like what most people have become accustomed to from conventionally raised eggs.  Whipping the whites of our local farms eggs will give you a consistency unattainable from conventional eggs and a rich flavor that is truly golden.  **Local, naturally raised eggs are in high demand and short supply. We will run out of egg add-ons quickly. Buy now to secure your eggs.**
There is a .50¢ purchase on each egg carton, or bring your own carton.
NOTE: Each week empty cartons need to be returned for reuse.

3 full shares = 3 doz. eggs per wk. for 26 wks. = $195.00 ($9.00 per wk.)

Delicious Local Raw Cows Milk Shares
The milk in the Shef’s CSA is the freshest milk you can get without going straight to the cow.  Cows milk produced by R-Farm, this milk comes from local Jersey cows in Fordland. Milk shares are the most convenient way for farmers to legally sell raw milk. Members purchase a milk share in advance. The farmer uses those funds to procure more livestock, milking equipment, supplies. The fees also help to support the daily operation of the farm.  Members collect their milk shares weekly at Season's Harvest Eco-Farm or alternative pick-up sites. You will be leasing a share of an R-Farm cow, and signing a lessee agreement with R-Farm. Your share will be delivered fresh from R-Farm to your Season’s Harvest Eco-Farm CSA bag in one day.

Please help us achieve a smooth milk supply and deliveries by following a few simple steps:
1. We do not wash jars.  It keeps your costs down.  You are in chare of washing your jars, and bringing them back very clean and very dry.  We work hard to bring you the best milk, and we don’t want to put milk in dirty or steamy jars, and we doubt that you want us too, either.  Please plan ahead so your jars are dry before you bring them back, otherwise, we have to let them sit out open until they dry.

2. Jars and lids are dishwasher-safe (lids in top rack). Please leave the fabric paint initials on, but the date can be removed with a scrubbie.  Please let both parts dry completely before putting lids back on.

3. Please make sure to return at least the number of jars you need filled for next week shares.  If the jars are at your house we can’t fill them.

4. You will need to purchase jars and lids. Jars are $2.50 each to buy, lids are .50¢.  If we break something, we’ll replace it, otherwise, it is up to the customer to pay for replacement jars.

5. You can supply your own jars, but they must be 1/2 gallon wide-mouth Mason jars with a plastic screw-on lid, (not a canning lid and ring).

6. You might consider buying an extra jar or two just to cover the occasion when you can’t get all your jars clean and dry in time.

Please remember that you are only one of several families that get their milk from us.  Please help us eliminate lots of time spent in making phone calls, etc… to figure out where your bags, jars and lids are, and in reminding customers to wash their jars,  We would like to thank-you very much for helping in keeping the milk share flowing smoothly and for being a customer of the Shef’s CSA milk share, We appreciate you!

The milk will be raw (not pasteurized or homogenized) bottled in half gallon glass canning jars with food grade plastic lids.
