Why Organic? PDF Print E-mail

The buzz about organics is everywhere, so what is the deal anyway?

Chemical agriculture destroys delicate microbial soil life from the salt and chemical impurities they contain. The chemicals that fertilizers contain are bound to and carried to the soil by salts. Salts draw moisture and there by destroys the soil life. If you put salt on a slug it will die very quickly because it "breaths" through its skin, if it drys out it will suffocate and die. Good healthy soil contains billions of microbes, with a lot of organic matter for them to eat.  The "waste" that they give off is what a plant absorbs through its roots. The organic matter brings a looseness to the soil which allows a much higher oxygen content. More oxygen and plenty of food for a whole food chain of microbial life just as we see above ground on a larger scale. Hundreds of species of microbes feeding off each other in a delicate balance called "nature". Each application of chemical fertilizer is a death sentence to the soils life.

Organic Garden Program for Soil PDF Print E-mail

Organic Fertilization is completely opposite of commercial chemical fertilization programs. Instead of applying a certain amount of N-P-K for each plant, we balance the soil with nutrients in a fashion that allows the plant to draw the necessary nutrients from the soil as they are needed by the plant. This ensures that the plant attains proper maturity, growth rate, and yield. This method is called Biological Ionization. Chemical fertilization programs call for N-P-K, sometimes calcium and thats it, none of the other minerals or nutrients are even considered. When stressful conditions arise, this is why most chemical gardens will need pesticides, fungicides, nematicides and other dangerous chemicals to solve symptoms of poor soil nutrition. After spraying, fumigating etc., the problems can return because only the symptom was addressed and not the problem, which is poor soil nutrition.

Resources PDF Print E-mail

If you have a source for organic materials please let us know. We will list things under resources that we feel are appropriate. If we do list them please use your own judgement, its your responsibility to check them out thouroughly. Anyone having a bad experience should let us know.

Materials such as composted manures. One major thing to consider with manure is the pharmaceuticals that the animals have been given, such as de-wormers, these can still be active and harm earthworms and other friendly soil microbes. Anyone feeding animals should consider Diatomaceus Earth as a feed additive instead of pharmaceuticals, it is cheap, non-toxic and more effective.
